Mail that has been received is displayed in the scrollable list in the upper half of the Snap Mail main window. This list is the InBox:
When you open Snap Mail, any new mail will appear at the top of the InBox, with an arrow to its left. Above the list of mail items, a status line displays how many mail items you have and how many of them you haven’t read yet.
To read a mail item, double-click on the item or select it and click on the “Open” button. The InBox will expand to show the text of the selected mail. The up and down arrows to the left of the box allow you to move between the different mail items while the InBox remains expanded.
For each mail item in the InBox the following information is displayed:
• The mail status icon
Directly to the left of each mail item is the mail status icon. If the mail item has not been read, an arrow will appear here. Once the mail is read, the arrow will be removed. Other icons may appear here as well. If you reply to the mail item an “R” will appear here (see page XX). If you forward the mail item an “F” will appear here (see page XX). Also, you can explicitly set the status icon from the tab pop-up at the top of the InBox (see page XX).
• The notification icon
The icon chosen by the mail’s sender appears on the left side of the list.
• The source
The name of the mail’s sender appears in bold. If the item is a return receipt, this name will indicate the mail’s recipient.
• The time-stamp
The date and time the mail was sent appears to the right of the source.
• The subject
The first line of the mail is used as the mail’s subject. It appears beneath the mail’s source and time-stamp. If the mail message is more than one line long, ellipsis points (...) will appear after the first line to indicate this.
• The mail type icon
This appears on the left side of the list and can be one of four icons:
1) Letter
This is a letter or regular piece of mail.
2) A bugle
This is an alert. Alerts are temporary pieces of mail.
3) A checkmark
This is a return receipt. If you have turned on return receipts, you will get an alert message when mail you have sent has been read. You may set a preference if you also want return receipts to appear in your InBox for a permanent record.
4) An “X”
This is returned mail. If Snap Mail was unable to deliver your mail successfully and the retry period has expired, your letter will be returned to you with an explanation of the problem.
In place of these icons, you may see a paper clip or a clipboard. These indicate that there is an enclosure with the mail or that the clipboard has been sent to you.
